Patrick Joseph Kirby, 82, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018, at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Hospital in Jackson, MS.  Burial was on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, in the Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS.

Mr. Kirby was born in New York, NY on February 11, 1936 to the late James Joseph Kirby and Margaret Mary Reddan Kirby who were both immigrants from Ireland.  Patrick had been in different branches of the military during his career.  Early on in the military, he was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada, and then much later, while in the Army as a recruiter, had two tours of duty at three years each in Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens, Germany.  After which he was transferred to Mississippi, where he then eventually retired from the Army Reserve in 1996.  Patrick had also been a radio personality DJ and news reporter for many years in Georgia and Texas, in-between his military career.   And he also loved music and writing.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; children, Dallas, Scott, Rick and Terri; several grandchildren; a niece, Michele and nephews, Ric and Jim; as well as great nieces and great nephews.   Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his parents, and an older brother, James Dennis Kirby.
