The bells of heaven rang joyfully on the morning of March 16, 2015 as it welcomed Paul Ryan home. Mr. Ryan, who was born on the 9th day of October, 1927, was the youngest child and only son of Cecil H. and Pauline Simmons Ryan of Kewanee, Lauderdale County, Mississippi. He was a longtime resident of Forest, Mississippi and a patient of Lackey Memorial Nursing Home at the time of his death.

Mr. Ryan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Betty Eason Ryan. Mr. Ryan survived Mrs. Ryan’s death by one year and one day. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Ryan was also preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Pickett, Cecille Lewis and Tommie Jean Ryan.

Paul Ryan is survived by his sister, Mary Ryan Anderson, and his adult children, Paul Michael (Mike) Ryan and wife, Penny of Hillsboro, Mississippi; daughter Jennifer (Jen) Viere and husband, Jack, of Dallas, Texas; and Mark Ryan of Forest, Mississippi. He is also survived by two much loved grandsons, Chandler Ryan Koch of San Jose, California and Landon Glenn Koch and wife Alli of Dallas, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Paul and Betty Ryan were an outgoing couple, enjoying a large circle of friends and all the perks of small town life. Daughter Jennifer Viere shared her one of her favorite memories of her childhood reminiscing that, after fun evenings of cards with dear friends, Lewis and Valda Eure, her father would carry her home through the small wooded area that separated the two homes. The feel of his arms around her and the smell of his aftershave remain dear to her.

As with many of his generation, Mr. Ryan began his adult life by serving his country in the United States Navy. He came back from military service with a determination to continue his education and was graduated in 1951 from Mississippi State with a degree in business. He was for many years an insurance investigator for Equifax. After a heart attack limited his activities, he was employed by Forest attorney, Jerry Bustin. During his many years in the law offices, he touched a multitude of lives at times of great turmoil. He had a gift for reaching people and shining the light of God’s love into dark times.

Prior to his final illness, Paul was an active member of Forest Baptist Church, holding the positions of Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He loved his God and his church and was a very dedicated and faithful Sunday School and Church member.

Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest is in charge of final arrangements. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Services are planned for March 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Forest Baptist Church, Dr. Gordon Sansing officiating. Visitation will also be at the church from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM. Mr. Ryan will be laid to rest beside his wife in the Kewanee Cemetery in Lauderdale County.
