Peggy Agnew Shamburger

Peggy Shamburger wanted to see people smile. She loved to entertain her friends and relatives at dinner parties and holiday gatherings. She had a passion for travel that took her and others around the world. She cherished time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She wanted the people around her to be happy.

Peggy Agnew Shamburger was born on March 29, 1952, in Meridian, Mississippi, and was raised in Jackson. She passed on March 22, 2025, a week shy of her 73rd birthday.

Peggy graduated from Callaway High School before attending Mississippi State University, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. Peggy and Sonny got married in 1974 and were together for 50 years, until his death on November 21, 2024. They raised a daughter and two sons in Brandon.

Peggy found joy in entertaining others, from stuffing cash in plastic eggs for Easter or creating scavenger hunts for her kids’ Christmas gifts. She liked to organize games for gatherings with family and friends. She was an active member of Brandon First Methodist Church.

Besides her family and faith, nothing brought Peggy more joy than traveling. She was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines early in her career before moving on to work as a travel agent and guide. Since 1991, she worked at Avanti Travel and explored the world, from some of the most popular destinations to some of the most obscure. Pictures of her adventures adorned the walls of her home and office. She was proud of the job she did.

Her last big trip was across several countries in Eastern Europe to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary to Sonny. They had the time of their lives.

Peggy will be missed. She won’t be forgotten.

Peggy is survived by her loving sons; Charles H. “Sandy” Shamburger, IV (Stephanie) and Christopher Douglas Shamburger; and her adoring grandchildren Anna Claire Shamburger, Charles “Charlie” Shamburger, V, Scott Hudson Shamburger, Tori Tullos, and Alex Tullos. She also leaves behind her brother, Charles Douglas “Doug” Agnew, Jr. (Nancy) and Joyce A. Gary (Nelson) numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will all miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Douglas Agnew and Louise Agnew; husband Charles H. “Sonny” Shamburger III; and beloved daughter, Kathryn Lee Shamburger.
