Pete Riser was born in Newton County on November 9, 1949 and passed away at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest on March 28, 2017 at the age of 67.
He was a lifelong resident of Scott County and was a faithful member of Ephesus Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was the co-teacher of the Harrison & Riser Sunday School Class. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic that was shown in his responsibilities as owner of Pete’s Welding and Boring Company, and in the fact that he owned six chicken houses, where he enjoyed working, with the help of the community. As described by one of his family members: “He lived to do for others,” a phrase that described his selfless way to serve others. Pete retired from the Army National Guard after twenty-two years of faithful service, summarized in the description, very patriotic, “proud to be an American.” His witness will live on in the lives of those he came in contact with and his love and devotion as a husband, father, grandfather and brother will be remembered for generations to come.
Mr. Riser is preceded in death by one son: Jody B. Riser; his parents: Carl Lee & Etoyal Patrick Riser; three sisters: Beth Goff, Patsy Gardner, and Wilma White; and one brother: Carey Riser.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years: Mrs. Donna Phillips Riser of Forest; one son: John Carl (Erica) Riser of Forest; and one daughter: Shelly (Gene) Boone of Pineville; one daughter-in-law: Kathleen Riser of Forest; three grandchildren: Delton Boone, Chase Boone, and Laya Riser; three sisters: Carolyn Haralson of Forest; Anna Bell (Randy) Toler of Liberty and Nancy (Robert) Shaw of Bastrop, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
