Rachel Ann Mayo, 86, entered into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Grace Primitive Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Born on January 20, 1939, in Leake County, MS, Rachel was the beloved daughter of the late John David Killens and Maude Moorehead Killens. She grew up with a strong Christian faith that guided her throughout her life. A devoted member of Grace Primitive Baptist Church, she found joy in singing, preparing home-cooked meals, and creating a home filled with warmth, love, and laughter. Rachel’s greatest joy was taking care of the people she loved, and she did so with a heart full of kindness and a spirit of generosity.
She was the cherished wife of Thomas W. Mayo, with whom she shared 69 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a family that was the center of Rachel’s world. She was a loving mother to Sheila (Mike) King, Tammy (Tony) Thornton, and Jennifer (Mickey) Kelly and a proud grandmother to Jereme (Heather) King, Joseph King, Marah (Sam) Ingram, Brittany (Blake) Evans, Aaron (Dorane) Thornton, Christian Kelly, and Blake Kelly. Her legacy lives on in her great-grandchildren, Stella King, Wyatt King, Bentley Evans, Bankston Evans, Beau Evans, Kye Thornton, Remington Thornton, Lily Thornton, Ellie Ingram, Isla Ingram, and Joseph Ingram, each of whom brought her endless joy. Rachel’s family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to caregivers Taylor Boyd and Christy Ainsworth.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, and her beloved grandson, Joseph King. To know Rachel was to know kindness, warmth, and unconditional love. She had a way of making everyone feel special, whether through a heartfelt hug, a home-cooked meal, or a simple word of encouragement. Her presence was a source of comfort, and her love was a constant, steady light in the lives of those who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and faith will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
