Ray Crout, age 86, a resident of Lake died Thursday January 29, 2015 following a brief illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30pm Sunday February 1, 2015 from the chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest with interment in Salem Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6pm-8pm Saturday January 31, 2015. Dr. Kevin Meador, Dr. Leon Everett and Rev. Tim Lott officiated.
Mr. Crout was born in Scott County to his parents Henry Nolan Crout and Jewel Faulkner Crout on March 31, 1928.
After serving in the Army in the Korean War, he settled in Scott County. He worked for the Scott County Times for 27 year, then in 1983 opened Dixie Print in Forest where he and his wife worked as owners and operators until his illness.
He had the longest continuous membership to the American Legion Post 0009 of Forest, having been a member for 64 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers; Roy Crout and Delton Crout.
Survivors include his wife Nell Watkins Crout, a son, Jamie Crout and his wife Fetina all of Lake. He is also survived by one sister; Mavis Woods of Forest, and a legacy of six grandchildren: John Lockert, Anastasia Crout, Adrianna Crout, Alexandria Crout, Jacob Crout, and Allison Crout, all of Lake, one great-grandchild: Bradleigh Lockert of Morton, two sisters-in-law: Janice Watkins, Nina Cooper and a brother-in-law Paul Watkins.
Pallbearers were Mark Branning, Brady Gookin, Kenneth James, John Lockert, Lee Watkins and Scott Watkins.
