Upon completion of his training at Fort Hood, TX he was assigned as a cook and then served three years in Munich, Germany. In 1954, Raymond married the love of his life, Helen Vance and they moved to Witchita, KS. When his term was up, Raymond re-enlisted and the couple moved to Selma, AL where their first son, Steven Earl, was born. Raymond was then sent to Tulle, Greenland for one year and upon his return to the United States, the family settled in Columbus, MS. In 1959, the family welcomed their only daughter, Judy Denise. He was a 32nd Degree FreeMason and a Shriner. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Raymond was an active member of Forest Country Club and served two stints as restaurant manager and groundskeeper. In 1990, Raymond retired from Cox Chevron, the business he built, turning it over to his sons to operate.

Raymond was known far and wide for his cooking skills. He loved cooking for family and friends, playing cards and playing golf. Raymond truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
