Rebecca Hatch

June 9, 1928 — November 4, 2020

Forest, MS

Graveside services for Mrs. Rebecca “Reba” McDill Hatch will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Eastern Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.

Rev. William Savell will officiate.

After a wonderful life of over 92 years, and the promise of reunion in Heaven with loved ones gone before, Mrs. Rebecca “Reba” McDill Hatch entered the portals of eternity to meet her Lord and Savior on November 4, 2020 under the professional care of the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson.

Born in Newton, Mississippi, she was a longtime resident of Forest, and an employee of Webb City Drugs and served the business as a pharmacist assistant. Mrs. Hatch also worked at Stevens Menswear as a salesclerk. She was a Christian by faith and a member of Forest Baptist Church.

Loved by her family, Mrs. Reba is remembered for her wonderful dedication for her care and compassion as spouse to her late husband, W.E. (Emanuel) Hatch, echoed by her children, Janice and Walter; they also remember their mother’s ability to be an intense listener. A wonderful mother, and the prestigious accolade of adoring grandmother, by grandchildren Sloane and Jenn, they recalled her culinary skills as a great cook, personally testified by Sloane about pancakes on cold mornings and her cornbread dressing when the family would gather for Thanksgiving. Jenn reminisced descriptions that compile a summary of a woman of talent, honesty, and her resilience was fueled by the love of her family. She will be missed by those who loved and knew her, but her legacy will live on in the lives of her family and friends for future generations.

She is preceded in death by her husband: W.E. (Emanuel) Hatch in 2001; her parents: Victor and Clara Allen McDill and her siblings: one sister: Frances McMillan and two brothers: John and Walter McDill.

Survivors include her two children: Janice H. Fortinberry and her husband: Ronnie of Forest and Walter E. Hatch Jr. and his wife Peggy of Baton Rouge, LA; two grandchildren: Sloane Fortinberry and Jenn Hatch; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Pallbearers will be Sloane Fortinberry, Jenn Hatch, Mike Hatch, Walter Hatch, Steve McMillan and Terry McMillan.

Honorary pallbearer will be Jerry L. Bustin.

The Hatch family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Staff of BeeHive Homes of Newton for their care and compassion; also to Dr. John Paul Lee, her physician the past 45 years.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the charity of one’s choice.

Ott & Lee Funeral Home, 295 East First St., Forest, MS served the Hatch family.
