Rev. Bobby Ray Thompson

Bobby Ray Thompson, 85, of Lake, MS passed away on July 15, 2024, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.

Bobby was born on June 3, 1939, in Branch, MS. He was the eighth of ten children born to Jim and Lorene (Robinson) Thompson. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, James, Hilton, and Jimmie and six sisters, Clara Renfroe, Betty Ivy, Lucille Thompson, Rachel Renfroe, Helen Shumaker and Patsy Massey and also his son, Revray Zane Thompson.

Bobby graduated from Morton High School in Morton, MS in 1958; from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS in 1962 and from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1968 with a Masters degree in Theology. Following graduation from Seminary in New Orleans, he pastored churches in Louisiana and Mississippi for 36 years. He was born into a family of professional painters and spent years in the profession also.

He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors taking care of his cattle and land. He loved gardening with pole butterbeans being his specialty. It gave him great joy to share garden vegetable with his family and friends. He was and avid and successful hunter of rabbits, deer and turkeys and found great joy in talking hours with his son Brent about many hunts.

At his death, Bobby was married to Carol Lockey Thompson of Pearl, MS, for 34 years. He had three children by his first wife, Lindrith Jones Thompson, who preceeded him in death. Sons, Revray Zane Thompson (deceased) and Bobby Brent Thompson (Lynn Marie) and one daughter Christa Huff (John). He had two grandchildren Hunter Huff and Locklynn Christine Thompson. He also has one brother-in-law, several sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

One of the greatest joys of his life was spending time with his granddaughter, Locklynn, just talking.

Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS Friday, July 19, 2024 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 9:00am to 10:45am with funeral services to be held at 11:00am in the chapel. Graveside will follow the service at Leesburg Baptist Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Micheal Shackelford, Junior Renfroe, Tim Shumaker, James Johnston, Ronnie Harvey, Colin Measells and Honorary pallbearer Mike Massey.

Memorials may be made to the place of your choice.
