Rev. Allen Blackburn

July 11, 1937 — November 17, 2016

Funeral services for the Rev. Allen R. Blackburn will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 19, 2016 from the Ott & Lee Chapel with the Rev. Carey Bass and Rev. Terry Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Providence Lutheran Cemetery at Raleigh with military honors under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.


Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 10:45 am Saturday at the funeral home.


Allen Blackburn was born July 11, 1937 at Conehatta and passed away November 17, 2016 at the Lackey Convalescent Home in Forest at the age of 79.


He was a native of Newton County and was a longtime resident of Smith County for over the last 50 years. A retired engineer at International Paper Company, Rev. Blackburn enjoyed cattle farming, gardening, and tending to horses in his younger years. He served his country in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime member of the Gideons International, and a former Hospice Chaplain. Rev. Blackburn was a retired Baptist ordained minister, having served his last pastorate at Magnolia Baptist Church in Smith County. He was a member of the Burns Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a faithful servant of the Lord.


He is preceded in death by his parents: Jim and Eulala Thornton Blackburn, and one brother: Darrell “Dump” Blackburn.


Survivors include his wife of over 53 years: Patsy Blackburn of Forest; two children: Terry Caldwell, and her husband, Terry, of Raleigh; and Pam Torrence and her husband, Lynn of Forest; one sister: Bettye Seal and her husband Roy of Union; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.
