Rev. Harvey Van Springer, Sr., 77, a resident of Brandon, MS died Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Rankin Merit Health in Brandon, MS. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with burial in the Lakeland Place Garden Park. Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm Tuesday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Rev. James Brown and Rev. Eddie Dempsey will officiate the services.
Rev. Springer was a native of Pittsboro, MS. He was the son of Eddie Bell Springer and Laura A. Davis Springer. He was married to Joy Rogers Springer. He served as pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Grenada, MS and Lake Shore Baptist Church in Florence, MS. He was a Scout Master of Troop #56 and had three Eagle Scouts under his watch. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Ruleville, MS and the American Legion. He was the mayor of Ruleville, MS for two terms. He enjoyed teaching, coaching and received his teaching degree from Delta State University. He was very proud to serve his country for 26 years in the Army and in the Army National Guard.
Rev. Springer was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Bell Springer and Laura A. Davis Springer and his five siblings.
Rev. Springer is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy Rogers Springer; daughter, Renee S. Hafler; son Harvey Van “Rocky” Springer, Jr.; two grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Hafler; Blake and Brooke’s father, Lance Hafler; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
