Rev. Herman Lee Monk, Sr. was born in Forest, the son of Bill and Ruth Sistrunk Monk, on May 3, 1938. He passed away at his home in Scott County, on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the age of 80.
Funeral services will begin at 12:30 pm on Sunday, December 23, 2018 from the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Ridge Baptist Cemetery, north of Forest.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 12:15 pm Sunday prior to the funeral service in the chapel.
Rev. Monk was a Christian, holding membership with the Ridge Baptist Church, and an ordained minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a lifelong resident of this area and a retired supervisor with B.C. Rogers Poultry Company. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and reading.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years: Mrs. Deloris Monk; one daughter: Nez Moore; one great-grandson: Justin Dewayne Bray; one son-in-law: Red Myers; his parents; one infant brother: Billy Wayne Monk and two sisters: Mary Ladd and Ann King.
Survivors include two children: Kaye Myers of Lawrence and Herman (Angela) Monk, Jr of Forest; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother: Floyd Monk; five sisters: Helen Luke, Rachel Brooks, Etoile Smith, Lola Dean Elmore and Jo Windham.
Serving as pallbearers will be John “Boo” Bray, Kevin Bray, Steven McCrory, Jeremy McCrory, Dusty Bray, Ethan Walker, and Tyler Bray.
Listed as an honorary pallbearer is Colton Monk.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105
