Rev. J. C. Renfroe (Johnnie Calvin), a proud life-time resident of Pearl, MS, went to be with his LORD and his wife, Vesta (who preceded him in death by only one week) on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016. The funeral service will be at 3pm on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Crossgates Baptist Church with visitation will be 11:30am – 2:30pm at the church. A private interment service will follow at Rehobeth Baptist Church Cemetery.
Rev. John Calvin Renfroe, Jr. will officiate the services. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.
Rev. Renfroe was a native of Pelahatchie, MS. He was the son of Richmond Renfroe and Maggie Harrell Renfroe. Born on January 29, 1928, he recently celebrated his 88th birthday. J.C. married Vesta Price Renfroe on June 15, 1954. They worked together in Ministry for 63 and half years and leave a legacy of immense Value.
Rev. J. C. was born in Clarksburg Community,(Pelahatchie, MS) graduated from Pisgah/Branch H.S., MS College, N.O. Seminary and MS College again. He received 3 Master’s Degrees. Rev. J.C. served in churches in Logtown, MS, Park Way BC and Crestwood BC in Jackson, MS, and McLaurin Heights BC in Pearl, MS, before being called as Director (Superintendent) of Missions for Rankin County.
He was a longtime member of M.H.B.C as D.O.M, he planted several new churches, including Pinelake BC, Castlewoods BC and Crossgates BC, where he later moved his membership and where it remained until his death.
Besides his ministry in churches, Lt. Col. J.C. was invited during his time as Chaplain, to the Pentagon to help formulate the job description for all National Air Guard Chaplains.
Together, J.C. and Vesta served as ministers to those who were imprisoned and to many in Rankin County area hospitals for 20 years.
J. C. loved sports and coached baseball and basketball for many years. He also coached young men's and women’s basketball.
Rev. J. C. said, “Love God and love His people.” And he did that and taught his children to do the same.
Survived by his children, John (Anita) Renfroe, Jr., Carol (Charlie) Utroska, Joel (Krista) Renfroe and Cecelia (Dr. Scott) Stearman; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; and his sisters, Ruby Earl Renfroe Smith and Emma Renfroe Cross; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Vesta Jane Price and brothers, Max Logan, S.O. Renfroe and Richie Renfroe.
