Laughter is the best medicine
Richard “Rick” Crook (59), a long time resident of Brandon, pulled his last prank on November 8th, allowing his beloved family to say goodbye laughing through their tears. Rick was born in Niagara Falls, New York, to the late Harold and Sarah Crook. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 40 years, Shari Nolan Crook. He was a devoted and very active participant in the lives of his three children, Kristi Crook Hudson (John), Richard Louis Crook, Jr. (Kassie), and Nicki Crook Mumford (Jessica), and their spouses. He was devoted to spoiling his grandchildren rotten (Chase Hudson, A’zaya Crook, and Richard Louis Crook, III, aka Tripp). He took pride in being the big brother to Jim Crook, John Cage, and Angela Hall and being the fun uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He spent his time sharing his wisdom of a loving and happy marriage, pulling pranks, perfecting the art of the well-timed fart joke, and laying the foundation for music appreciation for everyone around him. Considering himself a big kid, he never met a child he didn’t love who didn’t love him in return. Many he considered his bonus children. He spent many days riding and racing go-karts with the neighborhood kids, teaching the proper techniques for effectively playing a mean air guitar, and perfecting the ratio of cookies to milk for many a midnight snack for his children and their friends. Many feared for their lives when a Rush song would come on the radio while riding with Rick in his truck. He played the air drums on everything but the steering wheel, and yet they were still willing passengers on a quick trip to the local Sonic, Hobby Town, or Charlie’s Garage.
He loved cars, trains, and fishing, but most of all, he loved his friends and family. He believed that every day was a gift, that life should be lived to the fullest, music should be felt (sometimes by the neighbors down the street), that movies were better with surround sound, and that you should do your very best in whatever you chose to do in your life. In the words of Green Day, he hoped that what time you shared together “you had the time of your life.”
Visitation will take place at Ott & Lee in Brandon on Saturday, November 11, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Services will be officiated by his friend and fellow funny man, Mr. David Fisher on Sunday at 2:30 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.
