Richard “Dick” Gookin, 85, passed away Sun. Dec. 13, 2015 at the St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Mon. Dec. 14, 2015 from 5pm-7pm at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS. Graveside services are 10am on Tues. Dec. 15, 2015 at the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery in Jackson, MS.
Mr. Gookin was born and raised in Jackson, MS and has been a resident of Florence, MS for the past 15 years after he retired. He graduated from Central High School in Jackson, MS with the class of 1949. Mr. Gookin was the owner of Dicks Barber Shop in Jackson, MS, he served as a counselor for young men, and he also enjoyed painting, and traveling.
He is survived by his children, Karen Easterling (Mark), Betty Swilley, and Ken Primmer (Amy); grandchildren, Kristi Pitts (Jack), Karla Easterling, Jenifer Edeker (Kwang), Teresa Warren, and several great grandchildren. Mr. Gookin is preceded in death by his wife, Wilda Gookin; parents, Arthur and Mattie Lee Gookin, and eight brothers and sisters.
