Wayne Ivy (72) passed away on Thursday August 29, 2019 at his home in Brandon, MS, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 4, 2019 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and on Thursday September 5 2019 from 10:00am to 10:45am at Ott and Lee funeral home in Brandon, MS. Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Thursday September 5, 2019 at the Ott and Lee funeral home chapel in Brandon, MS. Following the funeral service, burial will be at the Mississippi Veteran’s Cemetery in Newton, MS.
He was born in Kosciusko, MS to R.W. Ivy and Flossie Ivy. He grew up in Greenville, MS before joining the United States Air Force in 1965. He served his country for twenty-six years. He achieved many accomplishments before retiring in 1991 as a Senior Master Sergeant. He then began working for the Mississippi department of transportation - Law enforcement division and retired after sixteen years of service in 2008. After retirement Wayne took great pride in helping launch his son’s business, Ivy’s Marine Service, LLC.
He loved watching sports, live and on television. He was an avid Ole Miss, New York Giants, and Atlanta Braves fan. Watching his grandsons play baseball gave him great pleasure, he was very seldom absent from a game for many years. He was a passionate fisherman. He was always happy to supply his family with enough fish to have several fish fry’s each year. He loved hunting and was a long time member of S&L hunting club.
He was a man of outstanding character. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His loyalty ran deep. He was honest to a fault. His love for his family was immeasurable. He was admired by all that knew him. He will be deeply missed by all that loved him.
He is survived by his wife, the love of his life for fifty-one years, Shirley Pevey Ivy, two daughters: Christine Ivy Craig and Wendy Ivy Jones (Ben) son: Michael Wayne Ivy (Katie); seven grandchildren: Melissa Underwood (Ian), Allie Ivy, Mallory Ivy, Cody Coker, Austin Craig, Travis Coker, Brent Ivy; one great grandson: Russell Underwood, as well as one great grandchild on the way. Sister: Judy Ivy Keigley (Gerald), and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents: R.W. and Flossie Boykin Ivy and a sister: Marion “Jo” Ivy Bingham.
