Richard Stevie “Steve” Rankin, 48, a loving Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother went gently into the arms of our Heavenly Father on July 5, 2010 as a result of complications following a heart transplant on June 14, 2010 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation will be held today from 5pm.-8pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland and from 9am.-10am. Thurs. July 8, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Richland. Funeral Services are 10am. Thurs. July 8, 2010 at the church with interment to follow in the Glenwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Richland.

Steve was born in Raleigh, lived most of his life in Magee, and has been a resident of Richland for the past 28 years, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richland. He graduated from Magee High School in 1981, loved to go hunting, took pride in his yard, and was also an avid Mississippi State Fan. Steve was a wonderful family man and “Poppy” to his grandson Tanner. He was a man of few words, but his walk spoke volumes. He fought hard through his illness, but never complained. He will be missed by many.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Tina Rankin of Richland; one daughter, Heather Coleman of Richland; one grandson, Tanner Coleman of Richland; his mother, Cecil Rankin of Magee; mother and father-in-law, Gary and Linda McDonald of Greenwood; his sister, Mary Winstead of Star; two brothers, Clinton Rankin and Carnell Rankin both of Magee; brother in-law, Jason McDonald and his wife Annette of Greenwood; 11 nieces; 5 nephews and a host of great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Jasper Nelson Rankin and his brother, James Carney Rankin.

We wish to thank Dr. Davis Dear, Dr. Douglas Wolfe, Dr. Charles Moore, Dr. Curtis Tribble, Dr. Rod Shields & Dr. Giorgio Aru for their tender care. To the CICU staff at UMC, words cannot begin to express our gratitude for your compassion not only for the care you gave Steve, but for the care you gave his family during the three week hospital stay.

One final thank you to the family of the donor. We will be eternally grateful for your precious gift, which gave Steve a second chance at life without heart problems. It just was not God’s will for him to survive this side of Heaven. May God richly bless you.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Richland, The American Heart Association or the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency.
