Mr. Weems, born in Smith County, MS, December 30, 1927, is also preceeded in death by his parents, Hilton Thurman Weems and Etta Irene Sorey Weems, and oldest sister, Alice Jean Patterson. Surviving family include daughters, Judy Parkman Moore (George) of Forest, and Rita W. Williams (John) of Coldwater, MS; sister, Julia Maxine Mitchell (James) of Forest; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a number of close nieces and nephews.
From Forest Highschool, Mr. Weems joined the United States Navy, and served from 1946 to 1949. He met his wife, Beulah Duncan, while serving in Tounge Point, Astoria, Oregon, and after his discharge they moved to Forest. He was in the automotive industry for a few years, but for many years afterward they owned and operated, Weems Cash Grocery south of Forest, until their retirement in 1982. They loved and served the Lord in Homewood & Forest; they deeply loved their family, and their many community and church friends. Mr. Weems was an active church deacon for many years, and a Mason for 50 years. Their daughters describe them as wonderful examples, fun and funny, wise and temperate, honest, generous, dependable and loving. One of their grandsons had this to say, "Most of all he was the picture of what commitment looks like...faithfulness...65 years married...until death separated them. [Now] two years later, on Valentine's Day they were reunited" for eternity.
Pallbearers were Mitch Parkman, Hal Patterson, Shelby Patterson, Jeff Mitchell, Jordan Maner, and Trey Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Forest's Temple Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Homewood United Methodist Memorial Cemetery in Homewood, MS. Friends and family may sign an online guestbook at www.ottandleefuneralhome.com.
