Richard Baird Ward, Jr., 48, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. A memorial service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon.
Richard was born February 17, 1967 in Princeton, New Jersey and lived in Arlington, Virginia and Tallahassee, Florida before his family moved to Brandon in 1975. Richard graduated from Brandon High School in 1986 and Hinds Junior College Technical Program in 1988. He then served in the Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia and Ft. Wainright, Alaska. After his military service, Richard performed surveying with an engineering firm, worked in new car sales and service with auto dealers in the Jackson area and worked in the materials lab at MDOT.
Richard enjoyed golf and playing the drums. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races, especially when Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was racing, and he later became a Jeff Gordon Fan.
Survivors include his father and mother, Richard B. Ward, Sr. and Jackie C. Ward of Brandon; sister, Leslie M. Ward of Brandon and his uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Myrtle Crews and paternal grandparents, Richard and Ruth Ward.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the nurses in the Neuro ICU and Four South at St. Dominic Hospital who took such excellent care of Richard and the kindness shown to our family. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 2618 Southerland Drive, Jackson, MS 39216.
