Robert L. Morris, 68, passed away on the evening of August 26, 2010 at Brandon Nursing and Re-hab. Robert was born to George Henry and Rheushell Morris on Oct. 5, 1941 in Hazlehurst, MS, where he grew up and graduated with the class of 1959. He attended Copiah-Lincoln Jr. College and MS. State finishing with a BS in Business in 1963.
He began his career with The Travelers Ins. Co. Personnel Lines, in the Jackson, MS office. Over the years he worked offices in Shreveport, LA, Kansas City, KS, Houston, TX and also Dallas. He was an Underwriter, Agency Mgr. and Service Mgr. Upon his retirement from Travelers in 1992, he worked for the Associates/Citi-Group in Irving, TX in the insurance division. He again retired in 2005. In 2007, he and his wife Claudia Jean moved to Brandon, MS where they joined Brandon Baptist Church and he became an enthusiastic member of the choir.
Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf but he was best remembered for his joyful sense of humor, honesty and work ethic.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings: Bobbie Rogers, Sheila Formby, Faye Brown and infant brother Jimmy Wayne.
He is survived by his wife Claudia Jean Crain Morris of Brandon MS, his son Damon R. Morris (Carolyn), his daughter Caryl J. Morris and granddaughter Chayce A. Peetoom all of Plano, TX. He is also survived by sisters, Joyce Smith of Brookhaven, MS and Mary Nations of Byram, MS; brothers, Walter Morris of Magnolia, AR, John O. Morris of Springhill, LA, Jack Morris of Prairieville, LA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are 2 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral home in Brandon, MS on Sat. Aug. 28th,with visiation starting at 1 pm. With burial in the City Cemetery of Hazlehurst, MS. Visitation is 5 pm until 8 pm Saturday, August 28, at the funeral home. Pastors Dr. Clarence Cooper and Rev. David Prevost will be officiating.
