Robert L. Pollard
Brandon, MS

Robert L. “Bob” Pollard, 90, passed away January 22, 2017, at The Blake in Flowood, MS. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and 9:30 a.m. prior to the service at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 11:00. Interment will be at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland with Rev. Tom Washburn officiating.

Bob was born in Rutledge, AL on September 23, 1926 and later moved to Honorville, AL before spending most of his early years in Andalusia, AL. Bob graduated Andalusia High School and had the choice of attending college or going to trade school. He chose trade school and became interested in the clothing business while working at The Tailor Shop. It was during this time; he met and married Jean Carter in 1947.

His love of the clothing business led him to work with TexTan Leather Company and later Sewell Manufacturing Company, from which he retired in 1988. Always an innovative and aggressive person, Bob opened Ellis Men’s Clothing Wearhouse in 1973 and eventually Capital Menswear in 1975. With a desire to expand his horizons, Bob began developing real estate in 1981, later opening one of the first retail stores on County Line Rd. in 1983. He built Pearl Center, Lakeland Plaza, Treetops Place, Treetops II and Circle Center in Rankin County.

Bob was truly a Godly man and will forever be remembered as being determined, positive, loving and kind. He never met a stranger. “Big Bob” as he was known by his family and many friends was always proud of his family and eager to tell everyone. One of his favorite bible verses was Matthew 7:7. Jesus said, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

After his precious wife passed away, he moved to The Blake at Flowood. His family is forever grateful for the love they gave him while he lived there. Most every day you called him he would say, “Well, it’s been a great day at The Blake.”

“Big Bob” was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jean Carter Pollard, his parents, Berlie T. and Louise Pollard and brother, Edwin M. Pollard. He leaves behind a daughter, Kathy (Ron) Martin from Brandon, a son, Mike (Brenda) Pollard from Pearl, three grandsons, Justin (Marisa) Martin from Laurel, Josh (Beth) Martin from Brandon and Michael (Erin) Pollard from Brandon, three great-grandchildren, Ridley Martin, Woodson Martin and Mabry Martin. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sta-Home Health and Hospice and The Blake for the kindness while Big Bob needed special care. We are forever grateful to Liz Gilmer and Sarah Barnes for the constant care and love that was given to him.

To honor “Big Bob”, memorials may be sent to The American Heart Association.
