Mr. Robert Stephen Shoemaker, age 89, a lifelong resident of Forest died Tuesday July 16, 2013 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson following a brief illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 11am Thursday July 18, 2013 from the Hillsboro Baptist Church with interment in the Hillsboro Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5pm-8pm Wednesday July 17, 2013 at OTT & LEE Funeral Home in Forest. Rev. Ted Hawkins officiated.
Mr. Shoemaker was born October 19, 1923 in Scott County to David Shoemaker and Henrietta Allen Shoemaker. He was self-employed for many years as a farmer and truck driver. He also worked at Paul Chambers & Sons Store for over 20 years and later Boutwell Butane Company. Mr. Shoemaker was a faithful member of Hillsboro Baptist Church and also Woodmen of the World. He proudly served his country in the United State Army. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Maudine M. Shoemaker.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Shumaker (Faith), daughter Carolyn Lott (Clay) all of Forest, one sister Fannie Maude Shaw also of Forest, two brothers, Grover Shoemaker (Ruby Lee) of Decatur and Caray Shoemaker (Sylvia) of Montgomery, AL. He leaves behind a legacy of two grandchildren, Hope S. White (Jeffery) of Forest, Michael Shumaker (Edie) of Auburn AL, four great-grandchildren; Brianna Sanford, Ava White, Roman White and Rhylynn Shoemaker.
Pallbearers were Michael Shumaker, Jeffery White, John David Shoemaker, Wilbur McCurdy, Wayne Gordy and Kenneth Monk. Honorary pallbearers were Rodney Russell, Sam Fortenberry, Thelton Bell, Joe Brown, Junior Davis and the Men’s Sunday School Class of the Hillsboro Baptist Church.
