Ronald Hugh Rice, a long time resident of Pelahatchie, Mississippi, passed away at his home on Friday, February 15, 2019. Although Ron had been ill, this was unexpected.
Ron was born in Campbell, California on June 11, 1954 to Arthur Daniel and Charlotte Kingston Rice. He was the youngest of seven children. Ron was raised in Campbell, was active in Boy Scouts of America, and graduated from Campbell High School in 1972. He came to Mississippi to visit family in the mid-1970s and remained making Pelahatchie his permanent home.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert and Ted.
Ron is survived by his wife of 35 years, Keturah McLain Rice, his two brothers, Bill and Charlie, two sisters, Shirley and Jamie Evelyn, as well as many loved nieces, nephews, other family, and many friends.
Ron was an electrician by trade and recently retired as the facilities maintenance provider at the Mississippi State Capitol. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He was also a photographer and a collector of objects of interest. Ron loved to read and enjoyed listening to all genres of music; he enjoyed discussing of any of these topics of interest. He was always looking to make new friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi. A service will not be held at this time, but a Celebration of Life event will be scheduled later in the year.
