Ronald Curtis “RC” Blackwood, age 89, a resident of Brandon, MS passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, at VA Nursing Home in Collins, MS. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s by-the Lake Episcopal Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 26th, with visitation to follow.

Ron was born December 30, 1932, in Fair Haven, Vermont to Curtis E. Blackwood and Doris Mound Blackwood. He was married to Ann Hayes Blackwood. Ron was in the building materials industry in New Hampshire, Maine, Oregon, and Illinois for many years before joining Ameriprise Financial Services in Mississippi. He was a member of St. Peters by-the Lake Episcopal Church in Brandon, MS where he was actively involved with ministries feeding the hungry and homeless. He proudly served in the United States Navy.

In his early adult years, Ron shared his love of the outdoors with his children, camping and swimming the White Mountains of New Hampshire, body surfing and jumping the waves at the ocean and digging for steamer clams. He loved hosting lobster boils and clambakes for family and friends. Ron was a dog lover and had many “man’s best friends” over the years. All the family loved his last dog, Hutton. Ron was an avid reader, and his favorite pastime was playing cards. He loved beating family and friends alike and for years told stories about the games he had won.

Mr. Blackwood was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis E. Blackwood, and Doris Mound Blackwood, his first wife, Nancy Ward Blackwood, his brother Robert Blackwood, and his nephew, Michael Blackwood.

Mr. Blackwood is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann Hayes Blackwood; his daughters, Karen Kulakov, and Toni Chapman and her husband Glenn; his son, Kevin Blackwood (Maria); his two foster sons, Liem Nguyen and his spouse Trang, and Toan Vu and his wife Van; his niece, Linda Mederos and her spouse Diego; his 8 grandchildren, Christopher Chapman and his spouse Brenda, Traci Chase and her spouse Clayton, Sarah Brangwynne and her spouse Clifford, Daniel Farnham, Enrique Blackwood, Vincent Nguyen, Hope and Max Vu. He also had seven great grandchildren, Nicholas and Skylar Chase, Samuel, and Cooper Chapman, Leana, Audrey and Edith Brangwynne.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the VA home in Collins, MS as well as St. Joseph’s Hospice, Hattiesburg, MS. Their care and loving attention will never be forgotten.
