Roy Diehl, (Pearl) 88, loving father and grandfather, passed away on December 14, 2016 at home. He was born on March 22, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Dorothy Diehl, his wife of 60 years, Rosemary Kathryn Graham Diehl, and his sister Lois Diehl Griffin. He is survived by his children: Linda Diehl Myers, Chansee Diehl Arnold, Michael Diehl, Patrick Diehl, Kim Diehl Felder (Rickie), Kathy Diehl Bourgeois (John), Melissa Diehl Millis (Jim), Adam Diehl (Shauna), numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He played minor league baseball for the New York Yankees for one season. Mr. Diehl enlisted in the US Army at the age of 17 and was trained in Ft. Knox, KY (Armoured Division). He completed Airborne and Glider training at Fort Dix in New Jersey, while awaiting orders to sail to Nagasaki, Japan (1946) to assist in relief efforts. He served in the 11th Airborne Division for one year. Mr. Diehl enlisted in the US Navy in 1950 at NAS Norfolk, then at NAS Jacksonville. He was a member of the US Navy Patrol Squadron FASRON 6. He was then transferred to MSTS New York. He served on the USS Greely for 3 years (Germany), then on the USS Eldridge (Caribbean/Cuba). He served on the USS Wadleigh until he received an Honorable Discharge in 1960. He traveled the world and often told stories of his adventures in foreign ports (and there were many). After working in sales as a civilian for 15 years, he joined the Army National Guard in 1975 and served at the 213th Medical Brigade as an LPN and as a recruiter. He retired in 1986 as a Command Sergeant Major. He then worked for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) at the VA Hospital in Jackson, MS. Mr. Diehl was a long time member of Pearl Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to Pearl Presbyterian Church, 2933 Old Brandon Road, Pearl, MS, 39208.
