Ruby Jenell Stricklin Busick, a longtime resident of Brandon, Mississippi, died Monday, February 1 at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. She was 88 years old. A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm on Fri. Feb. 5, 2021 at Brandon Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held from 10am-12pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.
Mrs. Busick is survived by three sons, Lane G. “Chip” Busick, III, Christopher Francis Busick (wife, Barbara), and Robert Joseph “Joe” Busick (wife, Beverly); two grandchildren, Kristi Thompson (husband, Trey) and Jared Busick (wife, Jessica), and four great grandchildren, Abi Rae Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Ruby Rivers Busick and Davis Busick. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Basil Stricklin and Laura McGinty Stricklin; her son William Thomas Busick; her ex-husband Lane G. Busick, Jr.; brothers and sisters, Alva Gray Addkison, Barbara Ann Lewis, William Basil Stricklin, Jr., and Thomas “Buckeye” Stricklin. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and treasured friends.
Ruby was born on March 21, 1932, and grew up in Eden, MS. She attended Yazoo City High School and graduated in 1950. She went on to attend Hinds Community College, where she was an active member of the basketball team. After college, she was employed by the Federal government and she worked in Washington D.C. for a short time. She met Lane and later moved back to Mississippi when they married. He joined the military and they were stationed in Arizona for a short time. After he finished his service, they moved to Starkville where he attended Mississippi State University and she continued to work for the Federal government. They later moved to his hometown of Brandon, where they lived and raised their four sons.
Ruby spent her entire career working for the Federal government. She retired from the US Dept of Housing and Urban Development in 2008 where she last held the position of Director, Public Housing Division. She loved to travel and was fortunate to travel with various friends and family members all over the world. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of various bridge clubs in the Brandon and metro area.
She was also passionate about gardening and loved her many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Hospice Ministries, Inc., 450 Towne Center Blvd, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
