Ruby E. Porter, 90, a resident of Pelahatchie died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Scott Regional Hospital in Morton. Funeral services were held 2 pm Friday, November 7, 2014 at Calvary Assembly of God in Morton with burial in the Morton Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held Friday 10 am until 2 pm at the church. Rev. David Bryant and Rev. David Brewer officiated the services. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Porter was a native of Keeper County and longtime resident of this area. She was the daughter of Walter Thomas and Nettie Walker Thomas. She was married to Arch Stewart and Russell Porter. She worked 22 years for B.C. Rogers in the Poultry Industry. Mrs. Porter was a member of the Holmes Assembly of God north of Morton. She loved her family and spending time with them brought great joy to her life. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Thomas and Nettie Walker Thomas; husbands, Arch Stewart and Russell Porter; son, Terry Glenn Stewart; grandsons, Terry Glenn Stewart and James Arlon Stewart; step sons, Johnny Porter, James Porter and Bobby Ray Porter; step granddaughter, Stacey Lynn Porter; step grandson, Gary Porter brothers, Lester Thomas, Chester Thomas, Grady Thomas, J.C. Thomas and Welton Thomas.
Mrs. Porter is survived by her children, Lester Ray Stewart and Bonnie Jean Jackson; brother, Jack Thomas; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Serving and honoring Mrs. Porter as pallbearers were Larry Jackson, Cecil Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tommy Bates, Thomas Jones, Jamie Bradford and Jay Gilliam.
