Rufus Stevens

Rufus Lee Stevens, age 86, a resident of Brandon, MS passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:00 pm Friday, January 29, 2021 at Johns Cemetery in Johns, MS. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at the Johns Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to attend. We are asking that all in attendance please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Mr. Stevens was born in Simpson County, MS on December 8, 1934 to Thomas Grady Stevens and Ruffie Burnham Stevens. He was married to Velma Kline Stevens. Mr. Stevens was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and where he loved singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and serving others. He worked for Sherwin Williams for 40 years and retired as a regional manager. He loved his family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Grady Stevens and Ruffie Burnham Stevens; brothers, Thomas and Billy Stevens; sister-in-law, Francis Stevens and brother-in-law, Charles Simmons.

Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife of 64 years, Velma Kline Stevens; daughter, Terri (David) Smith; brothers, Milford Stevens, Travis (Grace) Stevens, Harold (Marie) Stevens, Phillip Stevens and Danny (Diane) Stevens; sisters, Linda Simmons and Patsy (Monroe) Burnham; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
