Ruth Ida Gates Compton, 88, passed away Thurs. Dec. 10, 2015 at the Brandon Nursing and Rehab Center in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held on Sat. Dec. 19, 2015 from 10am-11am at the Brandon Presbyterian Church in Brandon, MS. Memorial Services will be 11am on Sat. Dec. 19, 2015 at the Brandon Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Dawson officiating.
Mrs. Compton was born and grew up in West Palm Beach, FL. She lived in Biloxi, MS and after Hurricane Katrina she moved to Brandon, MS. Mrs. Compton was a member of the Brandon Presbyterian Church in Brandon, MS. She was a longtime volunteer at the Biloxi Regional Hospital in Biloxi, MS and also at the Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, MS. Mrs. Compton was also a bridge teacher and she enjoyed teaching senior citizens how to play bridge at the Senior Citizens Center in Brandon, MS.
She is survived by her three children, Carolyn Compton of Homosassa, FL, Jim Compton (Deborah) of Biloxi, MS, and Steve Compton (Gail) of Brandon, MS; three grandchildren, Michele Lawrence (Sam), Lisa Richards (Michael), and Drew Compton; three great grandchildren, Patrick Compton, Samantha Lawrence, and Madeline Richards. She is also survived by two sisters, Jean Sprague, and Irene King, and a brother, Charles Gates all of West Palm Beach, FL.
