Mrs. Ruth Johnson died tragically on April 28, 2012 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was very devoted to her family and church. Ruth was a member of Flowood Baptist Church in Flowood, MS, where she was an active member of the ladies group and served faithfully. She loved God in every way and knew that His love was sufficient to sustain us through our many trials in life.
Mrs. Johnson was born on May 5, 1935 in Pascagoula, MS to Earnest and Ella Johnson. Her caring spirit led her to nursing school where she graduated from Mathers School of Nursing, Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans in 1957. She worked many years as a traveling nurse and worked at both River Oaks and Central Mississippi Medical Center as a Labor and Delivery Nurse until she retired in 2003. After retirement, she and her husband were members of Mississippi Travel Trailer Club and Mississippi Airstream Travel Trailer Club in which they traveled many places together. She loved to travel to new places and meet new people.
Mrs. Johnson was survived by her husband of 16 ½ years, Jay A. Johnson, Flowood, MS and her sister, Mattie Jo Gilly (Shannon), Moss Point, MS. Her children are: Scarlett Joly Bernard (Victor), San Jose, CA; Deborah Joly Lachney, Baton Rouge, LA; Christopher Joly (Susan) also of Baton Rouge, LA. Her grandchildren are: Kristen Joly Renton (Jeff), Houston, TX; Kevin Joly, Baton Rouge, LA; Amy Bernard, Guilette Bernard, Victoria Bernard all of San Jose, CA; Madeline Pounders, Sumrall, MS and Michaela Lachney, Zachary, LA. Her stepchildren are: Charlie Jon Johnston (Linda), Jackson, MS; Harriet Johnston Brown (Gary), Madison, MS and Cathy Johnston Humphrey (Jackie), Florence, MS. Her grandchildren that she shared with Jay are: Emma Brown Geiger (Landon), Starkville, MS; Madeline Brown, Madison, MS; Jason Humphrey and Justin Humphrey of Florence, MS. She also was survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The visitation will be on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 6-8 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. The funeral services will be on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Flowood Baptist Church at 1:00 pm.
