Sam Holden, Jr. age 81, resident of Forest sunset Thursday, February 2, 2023, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30am Monday, February 6, 2023, from the chapel of the OTT & LEE Funeral Home in Forest, with Bro. Andy Boles officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30am until service time. Graveside services will not be held, as the family would like to remain to visit with friends. The final resting place is in the Harpeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Holden was born on July 24, 1941, in Madison County to his parents Lillie Mae Goolsby Holden and Sam Holden, Sr. He later moved to Scott County. He was a devoted Baptist who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Holden retired from the City of Forest as a Water Treatment Operator; additionally, he and his wife, Kent Holden owned and operated a chicken farm for many years. He loved the outdoors, farming, fishing, and hunting. He had a special passion for gardening and growing tomatoes. He loved his family and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Holden was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Amy Holden, and son, Austin Holden.
Mr. Holden is survived by his wife Kent Holden of Forest, 4 children; Todd Holden of South Carolina, Tracy Fritts of Madison, MS, Jessi Lee Holden of Boynton Beach FL, and Keith Jenkins of Forest, MS. He is also survived by 2 siblings, Bonnie Howard of Lena, MS and Mary Parker of the Leesburg community. He leaves behind a legacy of 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
His grandchildren and friends will honor him as pallbearers.
