Sammie Jean Swofford went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Ms. Visitation will be held on Wed. Oct. 23, 2013 from 9am-10:45am at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 11am Wed. Oct. 23, 2013 at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery in Brandon, MS.
Mrs. Swofford was born on October 19, 1946 in Philadelphia, Mississippi to Sam Lewis and Ruby Harrison Lewis. She was employed by several different Federal Government agencies during her working career, retiring from the Veterans Administration in 2007.
Sammie was a very caring and giving person, but always gave when no one else was looking. From teaching adults to read to supplying beds for children, she never wanted the applause of people.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, and step- father, Will A. Floyd. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Bob Swofford of Brandon, three sisters, Theresa Hartley (Kenny) of Huntsville, Arkansas, Brenda Gilbert (Buddy) of Ridgeland, Mississippi, and Johnnie Plew, of Charlotte, North Carolina, sister-in-law, Peggy Epperson (Kevin) of Raymond, Mississippi, one niece, three nephews, and eight great nieces and nephews.
