SERVICES: 1 PM WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26, 2011 AT OTT AND LEE FUNERAL HOME IN BRANDON.
BURIAL: NEW BRANDON CEMETERY
VISITATION: 5-7 PM TUESDAY AND 11:30 AM WEDNESDAY AT OTT AND LEE IN BRANDON
Samuel Washington Newell, 84, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 at his residence. Visitation is 5-7 pm Tuesday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 1 pm Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the funeral home with burial to follow at New Brandon Cemetery.
Mr. Newell was a native of Pontotoc County and a longtime resident of the Jackson area. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service after a distinguished 35 year career. During World War II, he served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific theatre. Sam was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Connie Newell of Brandon; children, Cindy (Ed) Grantham of Canton, Sam (Kay) Newell of Pisgah, Richard Newell of Pearl, Carl (Judy) Newell of Amelia Island, Florida, Michael (Frances) Newell of Brandon, Nancy (Jimmy) Paris of Brandon, John (Rhonda) Newell of Madison; sister, Mary Furr Patterson of Pontotoc; brothers, Bill Newell of Randolph and Tommy Newell of Mendenhall; 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 1 St. Jude Place, P. O. Box 1000-Dept. 300, Memphis, TN 38148 or a charity of your choice.
