Samuel Monroe “Sam” Slocum, 62, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation is from 5pm.-8pm. Tues. Aug. 20, 2013 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS and 9am Wednesday, August 21, 2013 until the 10:30am Service at Star Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Star Cemetery.
Sam was a lifelong resident of Star, MS and was employed as a sheet metal worker at Pooley Company. He loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing and training dogs for hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Sherii Slocum of Star; children, Payton Slocum of Brandon, MS and Wesley Slocum (Kathy) of Mize, MS; father, Wilbur Slocum of Star, MS; sisters, Jean Slocum Flurry (Dennis) of Jackson, LA and Anita Slocum Powell (Bubba) of Brandon, MS; brother, Charles Herman Slocum (Dianne) of Florence; 3 grandchildren: Bethany Ross, Addison Cathryn Slocum and Mary Hadley Slocum. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Laird Slocum.
