Sandra Kay Maxwell Burrow, Brandon, MS, age 81 years, died November 8, 2024. She graduated George S. Gardiner High School in Laurel, Mississippi and Gloria K Business College in Great Neck, NY. “Sandy” was a dedicated member of Nativity Lutheran Church in Brandon.
Her family was most important to her. With close family members serving in the military and civil service, her relatives were scattered throughout the US. She made certain that when there was any type of special family event or gathering that she was in attendance no matter the location and shared wonderful loving caring family relationships. She was lovingly called “the life of the party.”
She retired from Eaton Aerospace, formerly Vickers, October 2013, after 30 years of service as Sr. Administrative Assistant and Facilitator of Community Affairs. For decades, she was dedicated to helping the less fortunate. For over 25 years, she served as chair and/or co-chair of the company’s Community Involvement Team and volunteered with many local non-profit organizations. She coordinated a monthly initiative to provide hot meals for 60 men at the Billy Brumfield Homeless Shelter; she organized Eaton teams to help build homes in Jackson with Habitat for Humanity; and many other community service activities too numerous to mention. She initiated and coordinated the Heroes Bowling Classic, a fundraiser for the local Red Cross, as a project of the Women’s Auxiliary to the American Red Cross, Capital River Chapter, where she served as president for two terms. She received the honor of Volunteer of the Year in 2012 for the Women’s Auxiliary to the American Red Cross. Sandy was recognized for her volunteer service as a recipient of the GIVE (Governor’s Initiative for Volunteer Excellence) Awards, Eaton’s prestigious Stover Award for Volunteer Service and GIVS (Goodwill Industries Volunteer Salute). Sandy was labeled as “a volunteer’s volunteer.” She never met a stranger. Many of her co-workers were from many parts of the world and those without local family were invited to holiday meals and celebrations in her home.
Sandy’s daughter Julia Kay Welch Leach is deceased, and she is survived by her daughter Martha Gay Welch West (Colonel John West). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Nativity Lutheran Church at 2pm on Fri. Nov. 15, 2024 with a reception to follow at the church. Sandy always said that she wanted her flowers to enjoy while living and that memorial gifts be made to the Nativity Lutheran Church, Brandon, MS.
