Sandra was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi on May 9, 1940 to Dr. Rome Turner Dabbs and Minta Taylor Dabbs. The family remained in Aberdeen and she was named Ms Aberdeen High School in 1958. Sandra attended the University of Mississippi where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority and secretary of the student body. She graduated with a degree in Physical Education and later earned a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Mississippi College.  She was a co-owner of Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet in Brandon.

Sandra was an avid tennis player.  She was ranked #1 in Mississippi no less than 27 times, won six Southern Doubles Championships and was ranked #10 in the nation in 1979. Her fierce competitiveness on the court combined with her positive mental attitude made her virtually unbeatable. She was elected to the Mississippi Tennis Hall of Fame in 2001.

Sandra returned often to Aberdeen to spend time on her family’s land and loved nothing more than gathering with family and friends at her lake house.
