Sherry Pierce Hartfield
Jackson
Sherry Pierce Hartfield was born on November 23, 1947, in Jackson, Mississippi. A Jackson native, she graduated from Jackson Central High School in 1965. After high school, she received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1969, and her Masters degree in Education, as well as her Education Specialist degree, from Mississippi College in the early 1970's. Sherry served as a teacher and a principal, retiring after 30 years from the Jackson Public School System. Wherever she lived in the Metro Jackson area, she was active in her local church, including membership at Griffith Memorial Baptist, Morrison Heights Baptist, First Baptist Brandon, and Crossgates Baptist. Sherry also lived in Orange Beach, Alabama, for over a decade, where she was a member of First Baptist of Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Throughout her life, Sherry held a deep love for music. As a young child, she sang and danced throughout the community and on local television stations. She participated in various musicals in high school and college. She sang in church choirs and ensembles and was a soloist throughout her adulthood. We are certain she is singing and leading a choir of angels in heaven.
Sherry loved people. She was a remarkable woman, always demonstrating faith, strength, and love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sherry survived stage IV inflammatory breast cancer for five and half wonderful years. Through that platform, she wanted others to know Jesus and to make the most of today.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Robert K. ("Bob") Pierce, Sr. and Johnnie Canterbury Pierce; her paternal grandparents, Elmer Pierce and Edith Farnwalt Pierce, of Dayton, Ohio; and her maternal grandparents, John Monroe Canterbury and Cora Elizabeth Dukes Canterbury, of White Oak, Mississippi. She is survived by her daughters, Cora Elizabeth Hartfield, and Carrie Meade Hartfield; her brothers, Robert K. Pierce, Jr., Ronald Del Pierce, and John Reed Pierce, their wives, and various cousins. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 14, 2017, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi, as well as Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 10 a.m., prior to the 11 a.m. celebration service at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, Mississippi. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery in Smith County. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society; Susan G. Komen; Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation; or IBC Network Foundation.
