Shirley Ann Fayard Ferguson

October 23, 1938 – April 25, 2025

It is with both heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Fayard Ferguson. Born at home on Fayard Street in Biloxi, Mississippi, Shirley entered the world on October 23, 1938, as the cherished only daughter of Harold and Alma Fayard, who preceded her in death. From her earliest days growing up on the Point in Biloxi, Shirley was surrounded by the love of family and the vibrant energy of a close-knit community—a foundation that would define her warm and spirited nature throughout her life.

A proud big sister to her “baby brothers,” Larry and Lionel Fayard, Shirley’s love for family was evident in every story she shared. She delighted in recounting memories of lifelong friends and cousins—many of whom have since passed—keeping their spirits alive with her characteristic wit and infectious laughter.

Shirley’s passions were as varied as they were heartfelt. She remembered fondly her days as a high school majorette at Biloxi High School and the joy she felt playing the saxophone, both of which showcased her flair for performance and her creative soul. A member of Pelahatchie Baptist Church, she embraced her faith unwavering commitment.

Even as she filled her life with memories, Shirley’s unique sense of humor shone through in every facet of her life. She was known for her witty remarks, her acknowledgment of being a “terrible cook,” and her excitement for spring—when she could plant flowers in her yard and watch life bloom anew. In quieter moments, she found solace in reading and savored the occasional, well-earned Pina Colada.

For 47 years, Shirley shared her life with her beloved husband, Walter Ferguson, the love of her life until his passing. Their enduring partnership was a testament to a lifetime of love, laughter, and mutual respect.

Shirley was the proud mother of Leonard and Michele, who preceded her in death, and Jeff, Tonja, Kelli, and Tedra, who will miss her dearly. Her legacy of love also lives on in her grandchildren—Jeffery, Haley, Lennie, Catie, Lacey, Katrina, Chelsea, John Alan, Olivia, and Cooper—and in the joyful presence of her many great-grandchildren, whose visits in her later years brought her immeasurable happiness.

Shirley’s life was a tapestry of cherished memories, enduring love, and infectious humor. She leaves behind a legacy that will forever inspire those who knew her, and her stories, laughter, and gentle spirit will remain in our hearts always.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Pelahatchie Baptist Church. There will be a visitation from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Pelahatchie Baptist Church in honor of Shirley’s memory.
