Shirley Shipp Holston, 86, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Monday, October 2, 2017.
Mrs. Holston was born in Holmes County, Mississippi on March 9, 1931. She was raised there and graduated from Lexington High School. She attended Millsap College, Jackson and Mississippi Southern Extension College in Meridian, Mississippi. She and the late Rev. Wilton S. Holston, Sr. were married in 1951. They had been married 47 ½ years at the time of his death
She was called into full time Christian service while in high school. For 43 years she and her husband worked together to serve Methodist churches in Mississippi and Georgia. They served Shiloh in Rankin County; Eastlawn, Pascagoula; Bay St. Louis; Newton; Tylertown; Boling Street, Jackson; Poplarville; Highland, Meridian; Magnolia; Cary; Flowood; DeSoto Charge in Clark County; Delta Drive, Jackson and the Locust Grove Charge in Georgia. Mrs. Holston considered it a joy and a privilege to serve as the minister’s wife in each church they served.
She was active in Sunday School, United Methodist Women and the senior citizens groups. For many years she studied in Explorer’s Bible Study. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, traveling and taking pictures where she traveled, gathering genealogical information on her family lines and reading Christian fiction.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Lisa Holston Sanders, her parents, Walter Stanford Shipp and Linn Booth Shipp Poe and her step father, E. DeWitt Poe.
She is survived by a daughter, Eva Lynn Seal, and husband, James; two sons: W. Sidney (Sid) Holston, Jr. and Steve Holston and wife, Jeanie; seven grandchildren: Melva Deshmukh and husband, Ankur and Ryan Seal and wife, Elyse, Anna Leigh Mooney and husband, Michael, Jacob Sanders and wife, Mary, Laurie Wheeler and husband, J R, Brittany Holston, Dallas Holston; great grandchildren: Maverick Robertson, Ruger Mooney, Conner Sanders, Aryanna Seal, Owen Seal and Neal Deshmukh and a number of nieces, nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Ott and Lee Funeral Home, 1360 W. Government Street, Brandon, Mississippi, 39042. A Celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Brandon, Mississippi. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the Bond Cemetery of Wiggins, Mississippi.
