Shirley B. Rogers, age 90, a lifelong resident of Pelahatchie, died Thursday February 1, 2018 following an extended illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 3pm Saturday February 3, 2018 from the chapel of the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton with interment in the Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6pm to 8pm Friday February 2, 2018 and from 1pm to 3pm Saturday prior to the service. Rev. Phil Evans and Rev. Grant McElveen officiated.
Mrs. Rogers was born on Monday April 11, 1927 in Pelahatchie, MS to her parents Zack Buckalew, Sr. and Ota Lena Myers Buckalew. She was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church in Pelahatchie where she served as church pianist for over 10 years. She also served as the City Clerk for the town of Pelahatchie for over 25 years. She loved her family and community and serving in her church. She and her late husband, Claude “Pete” Rogers enjoyed camping, traveling and entertaining friends and family. They loved traveling together and meeting up with friends all over the country. She enjoyed the outdoors, flowers and gardening, fishing and being with family. Her wit and humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Frank Jordan, Jr. and Claude Rogers, Jr. and a brother Zack T. Buckalew, Jr.
Survivors include her 3 children; Carlis “Sonny” Rogers and wife Hazel of Pearl,
Eugenia Chisholm (husband Perry, deceased) of Clinton and Maria R. Harrell and husband Scott. She also leaves behind a legacy of 10 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bruce Holmes, Edward Holmes, John Holmes, Jeremiah Johnson, Jacob Chisholm and Tal Vardaman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 196 Charmont Place Suite 4 Ridgeland, MS 39157.
