Funeral services for Mr. Sidney Leroy Tagert will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from the Eastside Baptist Church with the Bro. Paul Smith, Bro. John Vaughn, and Bro. Phillip Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Rehobeth Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the church and on Thursday one hour prior to the services.
Sidney Leroy Tagert was born April 25, 1941 in Scott County and passed away on February 5, 2017 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson at the age of 75.
A longtime resident of this area, Mr. Sidney was a longtime poultry farmer who acclaimed the status of the top grower for B.C. Rogers, Inc. at one time. He took pride in his work ethic and farming experience and enjoyed every aspect of poultry farming, his chicken houses, gardening, and outdoor life. He will be remembered as an avid Mississippi State Football fan who enjoyed watching Westerns and in particular, "The Andy Griffith Show." A man of simplicity, he loved his family especially his grandchildren; he enjoyed visiting with family and friends and he loved his church family very much. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church at Pelahatchie.
He is preceded in death by one grandson: Brandon McCurdy; his parents: Leroy and Viola Shoemaker Tagert; one brother: Wayne Tagert and one sister: Dorothy Allen.
Survivors include his wife: Mrs. Catherine Tagert; four children: Lisa (Billy) McCurdy of Morton; Laurie (Bruce) Goldman, Cathy (Sidney) Lum, and Linda (Jim) Huff, all of Pelahatchie; grandchildren: Hannah McCurdy, Trevor McCurdy, Blake McCurdy, Lauren Dearman, Jacob Goldman, Austin Brunt, and Courtney Lum; great-grandchildren: Layla McCurdy, Brayden McCurdy, Brylie McCurdy, and Serena Dearman; two sisters: Ola Mae (Mitch) McNeece of Iuka and Beverly (Maxie) Henry of Florence; and several nieces and nephews;
Pallbearers will be Trevor McCurdy, Blake McCurdy, Brandon Dearman, Austin Brunt, Kevin Rhodes, and Billy Joe Tagert.
