Sidney McLaurin Burnham, Sr., 86, of Brandon died peacefully at home, August 5th, 2013
joining his Savior and believing loved ones who preceded him in death.
Mr. Burnham was born December 4th, 1926 in Puckett, MS and attended school there until and
after his service of our nation in the United States Navy in the South Pacific in World War II
where he was active in numerous notable conflicts and the occupation of Japan after the
surrender. After his service to his country, he returned to the service of his community and the
marriage of his loving wife and mother of his children, Flora Ingram Burnham. After her passing
in 1996, he found love again in his second marriage to his widow Jessie Huff Burnham in 1999.
Services will be at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon at 11 am Wednesday, August 7, 2013.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 until 8 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the
service. Burial will be in the Puckett Cemetery, Puckett, MS.
Mr. Burnham and his wife Jessie have been avid gardeners after retirement and kept many
supplied with the finest of produce and found great joy in working their crop and watching their
children and grandchildren reap the harvest. He served in management for many years in
Jackson, was a real estate broker, builder, and prior to retirement, constructed or reconstructed
many of the structures we will enjoy for decades at the Agriculture Museum, He was a deacon
and servant of First Baptist Church, Brandon for many years before retirement and moving to
Antioch Baptist Church where he was a member after his second marriage.
Mr. Burnham was preceded in death by his parents Rob and Delanie Burnham of Puckett, nine
brothers and sisters, his wife Flora Ingram Burnham and is survived by his widow Jessie Huff
Burnham, his son Rob (Martha) Burnham of Kosciusko, his daughter Nanda Burnham Martin
(Paul), and his son Sidney Burnham, Jr. of Brandon, 9 grandchildren and 15 great
grandchildren. Additionally, Mr. Burnham is survived by two step-children Perry Huff (Sandra)
and Pam Lawrence (Eddie) and 5 step-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Antioch Church Building Fund, or American
Cancer Society.
