BURIAL: NEW BRANDON CEMETERY

VISITATION: 6-9 PM FRIDAY AT PINELAKE CHURCH IN FLOWOOD

SSgt Jason Aaron Rogers,USMC, 28, born on April 9, 1982 in Jackson, Mississippi, paid the ultimate sacrifice defending his country in the United States Marine Corps on April 7, 2011 in Northern Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Visitation is 6-9 pm Friday April 15, 2011 at Pinelake Church in Flowood. Services are 3 pm Saturday at the church with burial in New Brandon Cemetery with full military rites. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.

Jason was a graduate of the class of 2000 from Brandon High School in Brandon, MS. After the fall of the Twin Towers on Sept 11, 2001, Jason had a calling to make a difference for his country and to defend the freedom that we, all too much, take for granted. Jason passed away doing what he loved most. He was a true Marine that loved his country. Before his last deployment, families conveyed how proud their Marine was to be in his squad. Everyone looked up to Jason because he was born to be a true leader. Marines and families all over the country have offered condolences which are greatly appreciated. His family is experiencing the astounding affects of Jason's kindness and compassion he had on others.

Jason was an experienced combat engineer in the Marines for 8 years in which he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He loved his job and wouldn’t trade it for the world. He was deployed on six overseas assignments, five of which were combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a highly decorated Marine not only with his uniform, but in spirit. He was so proud of his country and in the end gave the ultimate sacrifice a soldier can give in honor of it.

Growing up Jason loved going out and playing basketball with his friends and washing his car. When he was young he sometimes slept with his basketball and promised one day he would play in the NBA. Jason also loved getting dirty and being outdoors which joining the Marines definitely did not hinder. Jason was a practical joker in every sense and was always making people laugh despite the situation. Jason always had a smile on his face and was always happy. He was one of the most compassionate and caring young Americans. He was the type of person who would give the shirt off his back even if it was the only one he had. Jason could never walk by someone who was homeless without giving them something or at least talking to them. Jason was a true soldier to his core and led his life to it fullest. He is loved by all and will be greatly missed. God Bless and Godspeed.
