Stephanie Bell Flynt, 55, died, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She courageously fought cancer for two years, never losing her faith in God. A Celebration of life service will held 10am Friday at Pinelake Church in Flowood, MS. Interment will follow in Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation prior to service.
The daughter of Inez Etheridge Bell and the late Benoyd H. Bell, Steph was born August 3, 1962, in Centreville, MS. She was a 1980 graduate of Amite School Center, and she graduated from Mississippi State University in 1984 with a degree in Communications. While at Mississippi State, Steph was a proud member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and an MSU Cheerleader.
Stephanie moved to Jackson in 1986 where she enjoyed a long television broadcasting career, serving as an anchor and medical matters reporter. She received numerous awards, including a year-long fellowship from the Association of Health Care Journalists. Stephanie was inducted into the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2009.
Over the years, Stephanie selflessly gave back through service. She helped raise thousands of dollars for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Additionally, she was honored by the American Cancer Society for her work on the Power of Pink and the American Heart Association for the Red Dress Campaign.
Stephanie’s love for her family was immeasurable. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Mike Flynt; their children, Hunter, and his wife Serena, Mac, and his fiancée Natalie, Stephanie “Stevie”, and Joe Ben, all of Brandon; mother, Inez Bell of Gloster; and siblings, Benny Bell, of McComb, MS, Connie Rasor, of Miramar Beach, FL, Willie Bell, of Gloster, MS, and Dr. Hallie Bell, of Hattiesburg, MS.
She was preceded in death by her father, “Mayor” Benoyd Bell.
