Vera Sue Merchant Tatum left her earthly home and gained her Angel wings in heaven on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at the age of 94. She is now in her heavenly home with her savior Jesus Christ, and those who have gone before her.
She was born on December 5, 1925, in Forkville, (Scott County) Mississippi, and resided the majority of her life in Morton, Mississippi.
She retired after 50 plus years with the Bank of Morton. After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, Church activities, and spending time with her friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph (Joe) H. Tatum, her parents, James Isiah (Pat) and Susie Bennett Merchant, sister, Myrtis Merchant Jefcoat; brother, James Howard Merchant; and sister, Bonice Merchant Austin.
She is survived by one daughter, Lucretia Tatum Gaddis (Steven), one Granddaughter, Leslie Barham McCullough (David), and one Great Granddaughter, Margaret Ellen (Maggie) McCullough, one brother, George Bennett Merchant, one sister, Mary Ellen Merchant Mathis, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with a very special friend, Edith Stacey, who she loved dearly.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS, from 5-8 pm, and Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 10 am-1pm at the funeral home. The funeral will be Sunday, January 19, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Morton, at 2 pm. Services will conclude at First Baptist Church in Morton. Graveside services will not be held. The family will remain to visit with friends. Her final resting place is in the Morton Memorial Gardens.
