Dr. Suresh Chandra Tiwari

January 21, 1927 to

October 3, 2010

In the great tradition of Sanatana Dharma, commonly known as Hinduism, the ultimate reality is a unity beyond time and space. Our physical existence is but a transient journey. The physical journey of Dr. Suresh Chandra Tiwari began on January 21, 1927, in British India in a village along the southern banks of the Ganges river between the boarders of Bihar and Utter Pradesh, formerly known as Northern Province. He was the only child of Mr. Rajanikant Tiwari and Mrs. Sona Devi Ojha Tiwari, a Brahmin family of North India. His early education took place in a time and place that was caught in a tension between two ideologies, the traditional ideology of India and the western ideology of Britain. He was married in 1951, graduated with a B.S. in Agronomy in 1954, came to the United States in 1964, and received his Ph.D. in Agronomy in 1969 from the University of Georgia. He taught Agronomy, wrote the textbook “Soil,” and published multiple papers in major scientific journals while at Alcorn State University from 1969 until his retirement as Professor of Agronomy in 1997. He served as President of the Brahman Society of North America, President of India Association of Mississippi, and President and one of the founding fathers of the Hindu Temple Society of Mississippi. He remained the president of two non-profit organizations, the Shanti Pandey - Suresh Chandra Tiwari Foundation and the Rajanikant Foundation until October 3, 2010, when he departed for his final union with the great eternity. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Shanti Pandey Tiwari, his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Salil C. Tiwari and Mrs. Sharmila P. Tiwari, his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Pinky S. Tiwari and Dr. James M. Wilson, and his five granddaughters: Ms. Tanya Tiwari, Ms. Sonia Tiwari, Ms. Tara Wilson, Ms. Ava Wilson, and Ms. Athena Tiwari. The funeral services will include prayer services on Friday, October 8, 2010, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm followed by visitation, eulogy, and religious rites on Saturday, October 9, 2010, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at Ott & Lee Funeral Home, Brandon, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, a gift may be made in honor of Dr. Suresh C. Tiwari to the Hindu Temple Society of Mississippi, P.O. Box 5982, Brandon, MS 39047 (non-profit tax ID 64-0723799).
