Suzonne Tatum Sease, “Sue”, age 86, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020, at Wisteria Gardens in Pearl, Mississippi after a recent surgery. She was born in Greenville, Mississippi on April 30, 1933, to Johnnye B. Swilley Tatum and Clifton Archer Tatum. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and Stevens College in Columbia, MO. She met the love of her life, Elton Counts Sease, Jr, when he was stationed with the Air Force in Greenville. During the first years of their marriage, the Air Force moved them to multiple locations throughout the United States, but they later returned to Greenville to be with family and to raise their four children. Sue was extremely involved with their children and all of their many activities. She was a communicant at St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville and stayed in touch with her church family even after she moved to Brandon, Mississippi.
Many people throughout the Delta fondly remember shopping with Sue and Johnny B. at The Bed and Bath Shoppe, which they owned for over a decade. Sue was diligent about keeping in touch with friends from all phases of her life. She loved “get-togethers” and was always ready for a “road trip”, especially for her fried pies, Brent’s milkshakes or to Ms. Berry’s for tomatoes or fresh veggies. No one loved their birthday like she did! She would celebrate for at least a week and sometimes longer! On her actual birthday, there was usually a gathering and a chocolate cake—her favorite!
She leaves behind her daughters Dawn Hall and Denise Ward (Greg); her sons, Elton Counts Sease, III “Buz” (Marcy) and John Tatum Sease; her grandchildren Wesley “Wes” Hall, Katherine “Kate” Hall Curtis (Keith), Patrick Hall, Emily Fonte (Robby), Natalie Sease, Amy Lauren Jackson and Abby Bell (Jeff); her great-grandchildren Carter Georges, Harry Fonte, Elle Sease, Ryder Jackson, Archer and Posey Curtis. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Tatum Wells, her sister-in-law, Mariwood Tatum, plus a host of nieces, nephews (and their spouses), great-nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Elton Counts Sease, Jr.; her parents; her beloved brother, Buzzy Tatum; daughter-in-law, Amy Fulcher Sease; son-in-law, Glen Hall, and nephew, Rob Wells.
Due to the virus, a graveside service in Greenville will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elton Counts Sease, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund at Washington School or St. James Episcopal Church, both of which are in Greenville, MS or a charity of your choice. We also ask that everyone who loved her, celebrate her birthday on April 30th and have a piece of chocolate cake and a coke!
