Sylvia Huff Hemphill, 79, of Barton, MS, went to be with her Lord and savior on February 3rd, 2025.
Mrs. Hemphill was born on October 3rd, 1945, to Ercy and Beatrice Huff of Rankin County, MS. She married Bill Hemphill in 1995. After receiving her Master’s in education from Mississippi College, she taught for several years at Forest Hill High School before spending the next 25 years as Guidance Counselor at Raymond High School in Raymond, MS. Mrs. Hemphill kept up with many of her former students and enjoyed following them on Facebook. She was a member of numerous professional organizations during her career and enjoyed anything historical and political. One of her favorite pastimes was watching college and professional sports.
Mrs. Hemphill was preceded in death by her parents, Ercy and Beatrice Huff; sisters, Thelma Damico and Dorthy Cobb; nephew, Steve Cobb; and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.
Mrs. Hemphill is survived by her husband, Bill Hemphill; nephew, Doug Damico; grandchildren, Novie and Dane Damico; stepchildren, Shelley Bock and Buster Hemphill; and step grandsons, George and Oscar Bock and Aakash and Varun Hemphill.
Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS, from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, with services to follow in the chapel at 11:00 am. Mrs. Hemphill will be laid to rest at the Garden Mausoleum at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blair Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.
