Thomas Richard Hitt, age 80, of Brandon, departed his earthly home on Wednesday, April 5, 2018, and is now in his eternal home where he will spend eternity with Jesus Christ, his Saviour.

Visitation will be 2-4pm on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.  Funeral services will be 11am Monday, April 9, 2018, in the chapel of the funeral home, with a 1pm interment service at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS.

Mr. Hitt was born on January 31, 1938 in Jackson, MS to the late Thomas “Dick” and Floyd Sigrest Hitt. As his father was a College Football Coach, he grew up in Mississippi, Wyoming, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Mr. Hitt graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1961 with a B.S. Degree, and later graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS in 1987 with a Master’s Degree in Family Counseling. He was a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army in the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1988 when he retired as a Lt. Colonel. Mr. Hitt worked as a City Planner for the Mississippi Research and Development Center and Michael Baker Engineers. He worked as Site Director and Instructor for the Adult Homeless Education Program for Jackson Public Schools, as Director of the Social Services Department for the Salvation Army in Jackson, MS, and as a Federal Grant Administrator for Sample, Hicks, & Associates in Flowood, MS.

He is survived by his wife, Ree Hitt; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sharla Hitt; son, Clint Hitt all of Brandon; daughter, Robin Dawson of Pearl; brother and sister-in-law, James and Margaret Hitt; sister, Mary Stitt all of Jackson; four grandchildren, three great-garndchildren; numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Hitt's  Memory to an organization or charity of your choice.
