Thomas M. Stanford, Jr., 72, a resident of Brandon, Miss, died Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. Visitations will be held 5-7 pm Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 from 2-3 pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Miss. A memorial service be will held immediately after Sunday’s visitation at 3pm. Rev. John Dawson will officiate the services.
Mr. Stanford was born on February 13, 1943 in Memphis, Tenn. to Thomas M. Stanford, Sr. and Ruby Allen Stanford. He graduated from Marks High School in 1961. He went on to pursue his education at both Mississippi State and Delta State Universities and also played tight end for both football teams. In 1963, while at Delta State he received the award for most improved player. He received his undergraduate education from Delta State in 1966 and received his Masters of Education from Mississippi College in 1970.
Mr. Stanford was married to Jo Gerrard Stanford, the love of his life, for 50 years. For 30 years, he was a high school Coach, Counselor, Athletic Director, and School Administrator for Vicksburg Schools, Newton City and Rankin County Schools. Mr. Stanford was a member of the Brandon Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Stanford was a family man who loved and enjoyed spending time with his family very much. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and was affectionately called ‘Big Daddy.’ A highlight, for 45 years was the Eagle Lake Coaching Clinic he attended each spring break with his close friends. He also enjoyed watching westerns, football games, his grandsons playing baseball and his granddaughter playing soccer games. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
Mr. Stanford was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas M. Stanford, Sr. and Ruby Allen Stanford. Mr. Stanford is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jo Gerrard Stanford; sons, Cory (Aimee) Stanford and Scott (Cassie) Stanford; grandchildren, Ty and Trevor Faulkner, Landyn and Reid Blakely; Garrett, Baker, Sara Scott and Steele Stanford and a host of friends.
